This is a dark yet often funny novel told from the point of view of a man who for the past two months has been a patient at a New York City mental ward. Having suffered a breakdown—due to his shattered marriage and an irrational fear of fading away as a human—he now finds himself caught between two worlds, neither of which is a place of comfort or fulfillment: the world of the ward, where abnormality and an odd sort of freedom reign, and the outside world, where convention and restrictive behavior rule. Finally on his way to becoming reasonably ´´normal´´ again, he requests and is granted a ´´solo pass´´, which allows him to leave the locked ward for several hours and visit the city, with the promise that he will return to the hospital by evening. As he prepares for his excursion, we get a picture of the ward he will temporarily leave behind—the staff and the patients, notably Mandy Reed, a schizophrenic and nymphomaniac who has become his closest friend there. Solo Pass is an unsettling satire that depicts, with inverted logic, the difficulties of madness and normalcy. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Runnette. Although he was by profession a church musician, holding the position of Kapellmeister at St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna from 1772 until his death 1793, Leopold Hofmann was also a prolific and successful composer of instrumental works. Among the most important of these works are his concerti of which he composed nearly 50 for a variety of solo instruments in addition to 26 concertini. The six concerti presented in this volume, which include two works probably written for organ, show Hofmanns mastery of the mid-century Viennese concerto idiom. While they adopt many of the structural and stylistic conventions established by Wagenseil in his concerti, these works also display progressive tendencies in their musical structures and an energy and purpose, particularly in their finales, that draws its inspiration from Hofmanns symphonies.
Instrument : celloSeries : Cello LibraryNombre de Pages : 16´The idea of writing a ´Jazz Suite for cello solo´ came out when I tried to imagine how it would have sounded like if one of the baroque masters (Gabrielli, Buxtehude, Bach) had lived in our time and wanted to write a suite of dances. I thought it would probably still keep some of the conventions of the traditional form, like maybe the use of a Prelude to establish the key and the alternation of slow with fast movements. But some things would have definitely been different: the harmonies, for example would probably have been more complex and not always tonal. Also the popular dances used as a workbench for the suite would have been not gigues or Bourees but perhaps latin american or Jazz standards.Well, since the great masters are unfortunately not able at the moment to accept my challenge, I had to write it myself. I hope you will enjoy it. The famous cello player Janos Starker says: Lucio Amanti is a very fine cellist and imaginative composer. His Jazz Suite is an enjoyable mix of jazz and classicism. I much appreciate his work.´ (Janos Starker)Content : Prelude - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande Portrait of Resi - Grove I/II - Finale: Latin moto perpetuo
